The aim of this 75 minute online vet nurse CPD is to examine the behaviour of the species and how this should influence our care of rabbits at home and in the veterinary clinic.
The rabbit is the UK’s third most popular pet but regrettably the species is frequently misunderstood and commonly inadequately catered for. This is a significant cause for concern, especially as the popularity of the indoor rabbit is increasing.
To adequately manage any species under our care we must understand its origin, how the environment shaped the behaviour and needs of the ancestors of the pets we have today, and whether they have the ability to cope with the very different circumstances in which they now live.
It will include:
- Important behavioural characteristics
- Sexual behaviour, breeding and parenting
- The effects of domestication and the challenges rabbits face when kept as pets
- Measures that can be taken to reduce the effects of environmental stressors when rabbits are under veterinary care
